Therapy sessions are tailored to your goals using one or more of the following approaches. All of the therapies I use are based on a strong evidence base of research, and are time limited, typically 6 – 18 sessions.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical approach to change for common concerns such as general and social anxiety, panic, phobias, obsessive compulsive problems and depression. I use ideas from Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy alongside traditional CBT to offer a range of strategies for tackling self-critical thoughts and worry.
For post traumatic stress symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks and avoidance, I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) alongside CBT. EMDR helps to process memories and the feelings attached to them into a more manageable form. It can be used for a range of situations including car accidents, bullying, childhood events and complicated bereavements.
Solution Focussed Brief Therapy develops a clear picture of your hopes for the future and identifies your strengths and resources that can be drawn on as well as new ideas to try.
Woven into my practice, Systemic Therapy considers your experience in relation to your environment; family, friends, community, gender, age, sexuality and culture.
